DAY 1 · MODULE 2
Networking Fundamentals for Cyber Security
Learn how devices communicate using IP addressing, gateways, DNS, TCP/UDP and common protocols.
Understand the concept
LAN and WAN
IPv4 and private IP
MAC address
Subnet mask
Default gateway
DNS and DHCP
TCP vs UDP
Client-server model
Why this matters
Security testing and defense both depend on understanding where traffic comes from, where it goes and which protocol carries it.
See what happens internally

Stage 2 Interactive Lab
Open Interactive LabOperate this concept in a larger realtime simulation and save your practical score.
Perform the activity
- Run ipconfig /all on the classroom computer.
- Identify IPv4, MAC address, gateway and DNS.
- Use ping and nslookup against approved hosts.
- Draw the path from student PC to a training server.
Workshop safety: Activities involving scanning, web vulnerabilities or security testing must be performed only on the assigned training target or intentionally vulnerable lab.
Read and understand the working example
Windows commands:
ipconfig /all
ping <approved-host>
nslookup <approved-domain>
tracert <approved-host>This example is shown for guided learning. Real host/network execution is reserved for the isolated cyber-range stage.
Prove your understanding
Identify your IP, gateway and DNS, then explain the role of each in one sentence.
